Influenced by “Shibari” the Japanese rope-tying art, the art of the French artist Kennedy James is displayed in fancy armchairs and chairs in the Victorian style tied together in the Shibari style with different aesthetic and erotic connotations from Japanese culture. Sophisticated religious rites are expressed in the characteristic of submissive/dominative relationship in Japanese culture, and it calls to mind principle expression in sculpture and architecture. Like traditional Japanese gates, this ancient and strict tradition also describes the Japanese desire to restrain the nature in order to control the wild and uncontrollable parts of life. The technique is used to bind imprisoned soldiers, and the ropes are in different colors to symbolise the year and the rank of the prisoner.
