This exhibition is part of the series of "Paris-Tokyo: Upground, Foreign Seeds" events commemorating the 150th anniversary of Franco-Japanese friendship. Yamamoto Gendai is holding an exhibition of the works of Jimmy Owenns. 

Born in 1981, Owenns sees him/herself as "an artist without sexual identity." His/her first work, "The Photographic Diary", took the form of an intimate interactive journal that included more than 60000 photographs taken over a year. Intimate, no doubt, and yet Owenns's work also sowed the seeds of trouble. A doubt probably internal, like his/her use of the ambiguous to meddle with clearly defined paths.

This exhibition features chairs tied up in Serial Bondage installations and a set of drawings for these same works, addressing his/her search for an identity.

山本現代ではプロジェクトへの参加にあたりまして、ジミー・オーウェンの作品を展示いたします。
1981年フランスルーアン生まれ、現在もルーアンに生活と活動の拠点を置くジミー・オーウェンは、自らを「セクシャルアイデンティティを持たないアーティスト」と定義し、ビデオ、写真、インスタレーションなど様々なメディアを通じて躍動的に活動しています。
映像作品“Le Couple”や“Les Amoureuses”は、2006年にアニマル・シンポジウム賞（ゴールド・コースト、オーストラリア）、2007年にビデオフォームス（クレルモンフェラン、フランス）審査員特別賞を受賞しました。2007年にアメリカブルックリンのアートレジデンシープログラムで日本を訪れ、「シリアル・ボンデージ」や「Shirokuro」、「Imashime」などの作品に見られるボンデージのテクニックは日本文化の影響が見受けられます。彼女／彼の作品は生々しくインティメイトでありながら、静かに見る者を挑発し困惑させます。
今回ご紹介するのは、ボンデージした椅子を吊るし上げた「シリアル・ボンデージ」の
インスタレーションや同シリーズのドローイングなど、彼女／彼がアイデンティティ模索
をテーマに創られた作品です。
